Deliberate Rest

Society greatly undervalues deliberate rest. Note that I’m not referring to sleep here, which is also undervalued. Rather, I’m referring to the kind of activities that allow our directed cognition to take a break, at which point our Default Mode Network takes over.

Amazingly, our resting brain continues to work on problems we were contemplating earlier. It’s counter-intuitive, but it turns out that your best creative work is likely to come when you spend less time working.
